“A YOUNG CHOREOGRAPHER WHO IS GOING PLACES”

- THE AUSTRALIAN

“COURAGEOUS AND UNIQUE”

— SYDNEY MORNING HERALD

Jack Lister is an Australian dancer, choreographer and creator, working across stage, screen, movement direction and large-scale performance events.

After graduating from The Australian Ballet School, Jack joined Queensland Ballet (QB) in 2014, performing and originating many featured roles across the classical and contemporary repertoire.

After creating his first work for QB in 2015, Lister quickly established a name as a respected emerging maker, recognised in The Australian as “a young choreographer who is going places.” With an extensive portfolio of work made for Queensland Ballet and Australasian Dance Collective, Lister has also created for Birmingham Royal Ballet, Club Guy & Roni and Milwaukee Ballet, with works presented throughout Australia, Europe, the United Kingdom, America and China to critical and audience acclaim.

In January 2020, Jack joined Australasian Dance Collective as a company artist and was appointed Associate Choreographer with Queensland Ballet under the tenure of Li Cunxin.

In 2022, Jack was appointed Creative Associate of ADC, and in January 2024, Associate Artistic Director - both positions created for him.

Since joining ADC, Jack has performed in creations by leading Australian and international choreographers, including Hofesh Shechter, Maxine Doyle, Stephanie Lake, Melanie Lane, Alisdair Macindoe, Gabrielle Nankivell, and Amy Hollingsworth, alongside creating six original works for the company.

Lister has developed a distinct choreographic voice through large-scale site-specific and immersive works. His productions Halcyon (2023), RELIC (2025) and Code of Conduct (2026) have each radically transformed unconventional spaces into expansive performance environments - Halcyon reimagining Brisbane Powerhouse, RELIC created for the UAP Foundry, a working factory and warehouse by day, and Code of Conduct taking over an entire empty floor of an office building in Brisbane’s CBD. Together, these works have been widely recognised for pushing contemporary dance into new territory - Halcyon described as “must be seen to be believed,” RELIC as a “dense, multi-layered work that begs another viewing,” and Code of Conduct hailed as “a work that cannot be missed… an all-encompassing, poignant experience.”

In 2025, Lister was a lead creative on Bad Nature, a major international collaboration by Australasian Dance Collective, Club Guy & Roni and renowned Dutch interdisciplinary artist Boris Acket. Co-choreographed alongside Amy Hollingsworth, Guy Weizman and Roni Haver, the critically acclaimed work toured extensively internationally, including presentation at Festival de Danse - Cannes Côte d’Azur.

Internationally, Jack created A Brief Nostalgia for Birmingham Royal Ballet, presented at the Birmingham Hippodrome and Sadler’s Wells, with Dancing Times noting the work’s “exceptional maturity and depth.” He was also a finalist in the 2019 International Ballet and Choreographic Competition in Beijing. Perfect Strangers, performed by QB, premiered at The Royal Opera House in London in 2022, and in 2024 his work Mr Sheen received its North American premiere with Milwaukee Ballet, described as a “radical choreography.”

In 2024, Lister was a recipient of the American Australian Association’s Arts Fund Scholarship, enabling him to undertake a one-month research residency across the United States and Canada, engaging with leading dance companies.

Lister has also collaborated with director Ryan Renshaw on four award-winning dance films which have been extensively screened at international film festivals. Alongside this, he continues to work across creative direction for campaigns, events and performances, including fashion, music, film and major season campaigns for Queensland Ballet and ADC.
